Crooked teeth are history –
children should be able to smile freely

With young patients, we have the unique opportunity to promote positive growth and limit unfavourable development. We can prevent minor issues from having major negative consequences..

The Right Timing
We recommend that parents bring their children to the orthodontist for the first time at age 8 or 9. This is a good time to check for a crossbite of the anterior or posterior teeth.

It’s deeply important to me that we try to avoid this problem:

Patients often begin active treatment between 10 and 12 years of age, before the onset of puberty. However, certain treatments should be initiated sooner.

Depending on the circumstances, if the bone is already developed and there is a malalignment of the jaw (not just the teeth), then surgery may be the only way to achieve correct skeletal alignment.

The teeth alone, on the other hand, may be adjusted using orthodontic appliances at any time, even in adults.

Let us advise you.

Eruption of Primary Teeth

Dentition monitoring (orthopantomogram), transitional dentition
During eruption of the primary teeth, the focus is on identifying spaces so that orthodontic space maintainers can be placed appropriately if necessary.

Primary Teeth

The primary teeth are completely erupted by approx. 3 years of age. At this time, we recommend an orthodontic examination to check for anomalies and begin planning orthodontic treatment if necessary because science has proven that early treatment of certain dysgnathias can be advantageous.

Are you wondering whether your child has a malalignment and needs braces? Dr. Drost will gladly advise you.
We look forward to your visit.

Transitional Dentition

Depending on the child’s development, early treatments may be recommended in the first and second phases of transitional dentition, from 6 to 8 years and from 9 to 12 years respectively. In the case of planned extraction therapy, some extractions may be carried out at this time.

Permanent Dentition

Most orthodontic treatments take place between 12 and 18 years of age, once all the permanent teeth have erupted (apart from the wisdom teeth). This is also the point when it is decided whether the wisdom teeth should be surgically removed. Dysgnathia operations often take place at this time as well.

Removable Appliances

A removable appliance is often used in the transition from primary to permanent teeth. read more
